[BIH] Highways & Autoput In Bosnia And Herzegovina

by enschede-er
Now they planned in Bosnia The A2 wich will pass Trough : Border with Serbia - Hum - Foča - Goražde - Sarajevo - Zenica - Travnik - Jajce - Ključ - Bosanski Petrovac - Bihać - Border with Croatia - Izačić

  • they have now finished 45 km of the whole koridor first was it only 20 km now 45 km
    - enschede-er, 4 years ago
  • Where, of which corridor, Vc? Where does it end now?
    - Verso, 3 years ago
  • yes of vc, from sarajevo to kakanj 45km, tthe whole coridor while be finished in 2017 too long .
    - enschede-er, 3 years ago
  • zenica - sarajevo - mostar just 99 km for 6years that's too long
    - enschede-er, 3 years ago
  • Its okey and coming. Whilst these are being built other roads and infrastructure in the cities themselves as well are being refurbished.

A japanese team, i believe it was, did a report on Bosnias highway development as a base for it. And they emphasized the refurbishment of the current infrastructure before the new improvement would be made.

    ... Here it is...

    * Phase 1 (short-term): 2000-2005 – Rehabilitation & Stabilization

    * Phase 2 (medium-term): 2006-2010 – Full functionalization & Modernization

    * Phase 3 (long-term): 2011-2020 – Structuring & Progress

The west-east road seems good. Id also like to see one from Sarajevo trough Tuzla to Gradacac and Brcko, but thats something futher down the road if it is to be built.
    - Alle, 44 years ago
  • Okey.. do you maybe know when they will start the A2 from serbia border to bihac??? i have seen it on wiokipedia it says only planned but i dont know when?
    - enschede-er, 44 years ago
  • I'd like to know it too
    - corvus_edin, 44 years ago
  • ^^who will build that? maybe it is some pre-war plan.
    - RS.ban, 2016 years ago
  • bosnians will build that its a new planning , not from the pre-war
    - enschede-er, 44 years ago
  • here's the link if you know a little bosnian : http://bs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autoput_A2_(Bosna_i_Hercegovina)

  • bosnians will build that its a new planning , not from the pre-war
I have never heard about it and i live in Bosnia. Coz there are different plans and none of them includes A2 from Serbia to izacic.

here's the link if you know a little bosnian : http://bs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autoput_A2_(Bosna_i_Hercegovina)
I understand, but this is incorrect information.
    - RS.ban, 44 years ago
  • this is correct information , ist in planning the A2 so they dont lie for not a reason
    - enschede-er, 2015 years ago
  • ^^and why are you so sure?

    The plans in BiH are:

    Federation BiH
    motorways 2x2 with hard shoulders
    1. A1 Sava river north - Doboj (RS) - Zenica - Sarajevo - Mostar - Ploce (Croatia / Adriatic)
    2. Tuzla - Orasje (north Sava river)
    3. Kupres (border with Reublika Srpska) - Split (Croatia / Adriatic)

    highways 2x2 without hard shoulders
    1. Zenica - Travnik - Jajce
    2. Tuzla - Sarajevo (maybe)

    Republika Srpska
    1. Gradiska (river Sava north) - Banja Luka - Kupres (border with Federation, further to Split)
    2. Banja Luka - Doboj
    3. Banja Luka - Prijedor - Novi Grad (NW border to Croatia)
    4. Modrica - Brcko- Bijeljina - Border with Serbia (Drina river)

    highways
    1. Zvronik (border with Serbia) - Sarajevo

These are all plans for BiH so there is no this route you mentioned.

Hi, thanks for the link, the article says that it wont be built til 2015...

    This site is interesting http://motorways-exitlists.com/europe/bih/bosnia_and_hercegovina.htm

  • ^^but in bosnia case, not true!
    - RS.ban, 2015 years ago
  • whats your problem ? it wont be build till 2015 and thats it.

  • Austrian firm signs deal to build Bosnian roads: govt
    24 November 2008
    Agence France Presse

Austrian construction company Strabag AG has inked a deal to construct a network of highways in Bosnia's Serb entity, the government said Monday.

The concession agreement, signed by Strabag directors Rudolf Krapf and Felix Kaselleck, values the project to construct around 400 kilometres (250 miles) of roads at about three billion euros (4.35 billion dollars).

"This represents a capital contract for the Bosnian Serb entity that will change its appearance and create conditions for its development," Bosnian Serb Prime Minister Milorad Dodik told reporters.

Construction work is expected to start in mid-2009.

The government of the Serb-run entity of Republika Srpska had been seeking for more than a year an international investor for the project, which should help to boost its ailing economy.

  • Bosnian highway backed by 42-mln-dlr Kuwaiti loan, officials say
    24 December 2008
    Agence France Presse

A Kuwaiti government fund has approved a 30 million-euro (42 million-dollar) loan to help finance the construction of a key Bosnian highway, officials said on Wednesday.

The loan contract, initialled in Sarajevo by representatives of the Kuwait fund for economic development and Bosnia's finance and treasury ministry, was expected to be finalised early next year.

Its funds would go towards construction of a difficult 2.5-kilometre (1.5-mile) stretch of the so-called VC Corridor to link the Hungarian capital Budapest with the Adriatic coast.

Bosnia is still recovering from its brutal 1992-1995 war which claimed at least 100,000 lives and devastated the former Yugoslav republic's economy and infrastructure.

  • There are lots of weird place names all over the world. Literrally translated, we have places in the Netherlands called:
    - Hungry Wulf
    - Really
    - Best
And loads of others that I can't think of now. But I'm getting OT (never happens to me, really) :D

here is pic from Banja Luka - Gradiska motorway construction site.

and in Sarajevo - Zenica region weather is worse.

it could be 10 days ago. here we had temperatures over 10°C and Banja Luka is some 150 km far from here, so it cannot be that much worse
    - x-type, 44 years ago
  • Differences can be big within a country. A few weeks ago it was 2 degrees Celsius on Vlieland, while it was -21 Celsius in Ell, just 230 kms away.
    - Timon91, 44 years ago
  • but it rarely happens here. terrain is the same, just as climate conditions.
    - x-type, 44 years ago
  • no it is not actually, climate and terrain is the same few km before Banja Luka, Banja Luka itself has different climate, and that part Drivusa - Kakanj also different from Banja Luka.

But the point was that if you have or had conditions like that you are not able to build motorways.
    - Ban.BL, 44 years ago
  • Maybe the next month , they will start constructing
    - enschede-er, 44 years ago
  • BiH looks better and normally goes with small i not capital I :)
    - Ban.BL, 44 years ago
  • All letters in ovals should officially be capital. :)

    No it''s not U/C, U/C is Dobrinje-Kakanj 9,3km allmost finished(March).

Kakanj - Drivuša(Zenica) 14,3 km, maybe in April, they got the money.

The Sarajevo bypass is U/C, the first section +/- 5,4 km.

    - x-type, 2015 years ago
  • are those red road markings final decision?

Who knows? They are new but then again on the 37 km of highway there are several different types so I guess its a trend.

    p.s. I just noticed the Sarajevo Banner.
    - Alien x, 2015 years ago
  • Wich red markings? And yes, great road. Is it far from Sarajevo?
    - Norsko, 44 years ago
  • 43 km. SORRY! Just noticed the sign :D Still have not seen any red road markings though.
    - Norsko, 2015 years ago
  • Not road markings, but road numbers on sign (orange color actually).
    - Verso, 2014 years ago
  • Oh those. I also thought they were orange. Is`nt it normal with orange (dark yellowish) road number shields in Bosnia? Hence the yellow directional signage?
    - Norsko, 44 years ago
  • Not road markings, but road numbers on sign (orange color actually).they r not orange, but yellow as usual.
    - Ban.BL, 44 years ago

  • Do you guys know when the motorway to Zenica will be finished?
    - banjabuja, 2015 years ago
  • Hi everybody,
new page created on English Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A1_(Bosnia_and_Herzegovina) ). Help needed for texts, infos and photos!
    - gpy, 2014 years ago
  • Try avoiding the word "highway" when you mean motorways or expressways. In many English parts of the world, a "highway" usually means any type of public road.
    - ChrisZwolle, 2013 years ago
  • A highway is a main road intended for travel by the public between important destinations, such as cities and towns. Highway designs vary widely and can range from a two-lane road without margins to a multi-lane, grade separated freeway. In law the word highway is often used as a legal term to denote any public road, ranging from freeways to dirt tracks.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highway

In European context, I would suggest using the word Motorway (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorway), in American context Freeway or Expressway, depending on location.
    - ChrisZwolle, 2013 years ago
  • Thanks! Changed all "highway" into "motorway". It would be nice if someone better informed than me put technical infos (such as chilometers built by now), maps and photos: English Wikipedia need a good page on Bosnian Corridor VC! :)

    - ethernal, 44 years ago
  • The road on that part is not finished yet. It will have anti-noise protection and a fence so animals cannot cross the road ;)
    - AdnanPD, 2015 years ago
  • Good to hear that. But I don't see much space available for anti-noise barriers.
    - keber, 2015 years ago
  • Is's not finshed yet.

Kakanj-Zenica will be build in June this year.
    - BosniaHerzegovina, 2015 years ago
  • Good to hear that. But I don't see much space available for anti-noise barriers.
well it looks like that on phtoo the thing with camera and objective.
    - Ban.BL, 2015 years ago
  • ^^ True. But still I don't see any foundations, which must be constructed for barriers close to pavement into embankment.
    - keber, 2015 years ago
  • Well in fact I haven't seen noise barriers in Bulgaria,Romania and Serbia either
    - bgplayer19, 2015 years ago

    - Timon91, 2015 years ago
  • it is not motorway at all i don´t know what r those signs doing there.
    - Ban.BL, 44 years ago
  • I think that road used to be an expressway, but to give it more importance they change it to a "motorway". Where will the bypass of Sarajevo end heading towards Mostar?
    - banjabuja, 44 years ago
  • When I drove there in 2003, it was alreay a motorway then. But I also remember that the maximumspeed was 80 km/h, at least into direction of Mostar.
    - Palance, 2015 years ago
  • Motorway sign, but no shoulders? And about the third pic, is that a U-turn?

That U-turn is when the 'motorway' already ends, you can see it again in the last pic, and I agree, it would've been better, if it had stayed an expressway. It's very short anyway. I remember pics of it, when it was still an expressway, but god knows where they are.
    - Verso, 2015 years ago
  • Ah, here (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=10009225&postcount=1053) they are. I guess part of it is (or was) an expressway (motorroad), part motorway.
    - Verso, 2015 years ago
  • Thanks for the info. It's still a mystery to me why they called this a motorway, because it's just a normal expy :)
    - Timon91, 2015 years ago
  • I think they didn't have any motorway yet back then, so they recategorized it into a motorway, so they could have their first motorway. :D
    - Verso, 2015 years ago
  • Every country has its own motorways standards. Take Germany for example - many Autobahns wouldn't be even expys in other countries(like Poland for example).

BTW, having a motorway increases prestige of a given city :)
    - PLH, 2015 years ago
  • Well, motorwaystandards are generally the same in most countries; at least two lanes per direction, with a median, controlled access and shoulders. However, history leaves us with a lot of substandard motorways throughout the world.
    - ChrisZwolle, 44 years ago
  • Thanks for the info. It's still a mystery to me why they called this a motorway, because it's just a normal expy :)

That sign is there from the construction of the expressway and no it was never a motorway. but when it was opened there where no motorway's in BiH so the politicians try to sell it as one the illusion was short lived but the sign stayed and nobody bother to correct it.

well this is not motorway by BiH standard at all it is normal expressway and you can notice that by looking in speed limits that are 100 and off course the road is not tolled.
    - Ban.BL, 44 years ago

    - Timon91, 44 years ago

  • well this is not motorway by BiH standard at all it is normal expressway and you can notice that by looking in speed limits that are 100 and off course the road is not tolled.

That is what surprised me to, because generally those standards are relativelly rigorous enough in BiH. Sooner or later it will need to be changed I assume, lest it is made into a road which meets motorway standards?
    - Alle, 44 years ago
  • I am not sure that this is part of VC i think this road is tis dark green line and Vc is light green

I meant the current Vc Corridor, the light-green road/motorway isn't built yet.

I will cross BiH coming from Hungary to Dalmatia along the future V/c corridor. Do you have any info on where are the detours, lane closures along the way right now? How about the weekends? (I will travel on next Saturday)

2 years ago when this topic started, this (http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g146/osavic/rs-autoput.jpg) map was made. I can see the dates on map cover present time aswell, but is it still up to date? Did they make new and official map? I searched the net but couldnt find it anywhere. Do you have newer map or can tell me where could i look for it, who runs the motorways planning in BIH?

    Thanks in forward!
    - Total, 44 years ago
  • And one more thing, from:
    http://motorways-exitlists.com/index.htm

Planned route for A3 is: Добој (Doboj) (A1) - Бања Лука (Banja Luka) (A3) - Приједор (Prijedor) - Нови Град (Novi Grad), HR border

Which doesn't make sense to me, since Novi Grad is closer to Doboj than to Prijedor?! Is it more like:
Нови Град (Novi Grad), HR border - Добој (Doboj) (A1) - Бања Лука (Banja Luka) (A3) - Приједор (Prijedor) ?

    But part:
Нови Град (Novi Grad), HR border - Добој (Doboj) (A1) IS A1, or it isn't? Although, according to same site, A1 goes from Donji Svilaj, which seems to be next to Novi Grad according to google maps...

EDIT: I made this (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=108950818602825645586.000464ea3dc99d9bb51f9&ll=44.86463,18.570328&spn=0.344568,0.617981&z=11) map on google maps, is it kinda approximately ok? Doesnt include A1 yet...

And is motorway A1 finished from Zenica to Sarajevo?

Well that map is out of date obviously and dead lines are long time overdue.

Here is the map of planed sections

    Motorway map of Republika Srpska

    http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/1023/apnatpisikbmpnj6.jpg

    1st section Klašice-Gradiška is UC
Secton Mahovljani-Doboj is in preparation. Project is finished, they are buying out the land and after that construction can start.

In BiH every entity meaning Republika Srpska (red on the map in post #349) and Federation BiH (purple) build motorways for them.

I think someone from FBiH should explain better what is going on there.

Expressway or country-/state road Sarajevo - Tuzla.

Will replace the current (very curvy, altitude variable with climbs and descends, and rather slow) road for intercity transport communications. The old one will be kept as a local one and for service purposes. Projected speed 100 - 120 km/h. If there is to be built a motorway between the two and further, in the future, I assume it will be this one which would be upgraded to a full profile motorway. Altough there doesnt seem to exist any such projects or intentions, if anything develops which has such an interest, and spurs such a development, it is not hard to predict the outcome of this route.

A much needed and important road, which anyone who has travelled that route knows :) .

    http://i553.photobucket.com/albums/jj392/slimguy001/IMG_3539.jpg

Will consist of a couple of tunnels, bridges and viaducts when ready.

    Hi Adrian!
I've been on Cemerno-Uzice section and all parts of this route were at least 'driveable'.There were some works in Sutjeska canyon, but landscape there is absolutely fabulous so you won't even notice them. But landscape is fabulous everywhere on this route.Don't forget to visit Sutjeska battle monument and Visegrad bridge in Bosnia and ride the beautiful narrow gauge train in Mokra Gora, first village in Serbia.Have a nice trip!

  • There are some good news: on 17 Sept (2009) at the joint government meeting of Hungary and Croatia two relevant and important issues were decided:

"After the session, the two prime ministers signed a joint letter to the president of the European Commission supporting the construction of a Corridor Vc section in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Relevant ministers signed an agreement between the two governments on a highway junction between Branjin Vrh and Ivandarda"

About the later the Hungarian press reported that the connection shall be ready by 2013.

I read through this thread, but I'm not sure: is there a finished motorway between Sarajevo and Slavonski Brod, or between Sarajevo and Banja Luka? Also, is there likely to be snow in early April? I would be very grateful for any information.

    Hi!

There is definitely not going to be a motorway finished through all of that stretch by April. I do not know if there will be a motorway finished between Sarajevo and Zenica, it depends on the tunnel that is being built there between. The rest is a country road.

As for a route to Slavonski Brod, there is an expressway being built from Sarajevo to Tuzla, and from there there is a (relatively recently rebuilt) country road northward. If this expressway is not finished, this is almost certainly the slower route, because the country road there (that is the part being replaced with an expressway) is curvy and changes a lot in altitude as well.

But again, it is difficult to say, because both routes (or the upgrading of them rather) happen to be under construction. Maybe someone else can give you more information, but the safest thing would be to check later on, unless you need to decide early.

My advice would be to check on the status of the expressway towards Tuzla.

    Have a great trip :) .

    P.S. Welcome to SSC.

  • Thank you for your answer (and for the friendly welcome to the board). I will definitely wait until next year before I decide on the best route then. Cheers, Sandra
    - sandra_lux1, 44 years ago
  • sandra_lux1, best way is mostar - sarejevo, highway from sarajevo to kakanj or where it should end when you will travel, and then furthure north via bosnian M-17. On M-17 follow direction Bosanski (or Srpski) Brod. Pass border, and you will be in Slavonski Brod. Just follow green signs to reach motorway to Zagreb. It's not the shortest, but most pleasant and fastest route.

the shortest and the fastest route is Mostar - Jablanica - G. Vakuf - Bugojno - Jajce - Banja Luka - Gradiska - Zagreb.

Mostar - Sarajevo -Slavonski Brod - Zagreb is d-tour, longer, more expensive and bad decision.

  • Quote:

I think that the best route would be from Mostar through Široki Brijeg to Vrgorac in Croatia, and from there (Ravča near Vrgorac) is a motorway (Croatian A1) to Zagreb. The distances are: about 60 km common road from Mostar to Vrgorac (Ravča) and about 450 km motorway from Vrgorac (Ravča) to Zagreb.
    - darko06, 2015 years ago
  • I agree. Go directly to croatian A1 which goes all the way to Zagreb. Its about 60 km longer route but its more pleasant trip...

It depends a little bit on the purpose of your trip. The most scenic route would be through Sarajevo, but the most straight-forward would be through Siroki Brijeg.

It is highly unlikely that you would encounter snow in April.

speak for yourself. unless time was of extreme importance, there's no chance I would do that.

im not steering and winding through hilly two-lane roads so that some idiot passing on a curve kills me. you keep that luxury for yourself.

  • I wouldn't. That road is terrible. The road isn't terrible apart one small section you can always drive 80km/h. It is not motorway where you can drive 130, but it is ok for highway.

Time, money everything. You live in USA so there is no danger for you to be killed in Bosnia. BTW it is very easy to be killed on motorway as well. I suggest you to stay at home in USA to be on the safe side.

I am sure that 95% ppl wouldn't travel from Mostar to Zagreb trough Croatia. Only ppl who dont travel those roads say that guy from USA and the other one from no way near Mostar or zagreb.

LOL. Then you better use only trains or something if you are afraid of driving and completely fine roads.

  • pijanec, this is not the thread about two laned roads, so stop advertising common bosnian roads instead of croatian motorways.
    - darko06, 44 years ago
  • ^^ ?? It's not advertising, it's common sense. Why would someone drive all around and spent tens of euros on tolls while there are completely fine 2-lane roads?

Americans also said that Jadranska magistrala is deadly dangerous road, but in reality it is great and enjoyable road (my favourite road actually). Just because some nations only know how to drive on straight wide roads, that doesn't mean windy 2 lane roads are particulary dangerous.
    - pijanec, 44 years ago
  • pijanec, this is not the thread about two laned roads, so stop advertising common bosnian roads instead of croatian motorways.
The name of thread is "Highways & Autoput in Bosnia and Herzegovina"
so it is thread about 2 lane roads. Think before writing.
    - Ban.BL, 2016 years ago
  • Dude, you've missed the point. Guy from US clearly wrote that he don't want to drive on hilly Bosnian highways, so it was decent to suggest him that he has an alternative.
    - darko06, 2016 years ago
  • And of course, I apologise for my ignorance. In fact, Serbocroatian word Autoput is equal to English word Highway, so there is a pleonasm in the name oh Bosnian motorway thread. The Slovenian word Avtocesta (or the Croatian word Autocesta) is equal to English word Motorway (or to Expressway in American English).

autoput is word in serbian and bosnian language and it means just the same as autocesta in croatian, avtocesta in slovenian or avtopat in macedonian - motorway.
the closest translation of "highway" in all those languages would be "magistrala" (although i'm not sure if it exists in slovenian language)
    - x-type, 2015 years ago
  • Who cares what it's called!! SO many threads have been titled something with highway instead of motorway or freeway or expressway or whatever you call it. A highway is any public road. If the thread is called something with highways, people are allowed to post about all public roads.. END of story

    http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/6256/12135987.jpg
Of course, it's juts crappy sketch.

When Hungarian M6 and Croatian A5 will be finished this may become quite important corridor and useful shortcut. Bosnia probably doesn't have money to upgrade whole this route to motorway standard, but I hope for some improvements there.
    - Qwert, 44 years ago
  • Are there some plans for connection like this in near future?

Yes, exactly that corridor is Bosnia's A1! :)

HR border - Svilaj - Doboj - Zenica - Sarajevo - Mostar - HR border

At this moment, west Sarajevo bypass (SA northwest - SA west) is under construction as well as about 14 km south of Zenica in direction to Sarajevo.

The remain in direction to Sarajevo (northwest) is finished and is actually the only real motorway in Bosnia.

About A1 I think it will be a lot of time until it will be full completed, pretty similar situation as Slovakian D1 - mountains, tunnels, bridges and viaducts.

Check some pages back, there are maps.

and that koridor goes to where? ploce?? I don't think port ploce is so important that needs budapest attention :D so A1 would be more like a national route for bosnia i think.

I think so too (since Budapest have a motorway connection to bigger ports Koper and Rijeka) but I read many times this is the corridor from Budapest to Ploce (M6, A5, A1, A10).

Strange to me too but that is the official explanation.

Anyway it would also serve as future connection between Baltic sea - Slovakia - Budapest - Adriatic sea. In some way, quicker access for Mid-East Europe to southern Adriatic. Anyway that is very far away. Don't worry. :)

I would say terrain in Bosnia is even more road-unfriendly than in Slovakia:ohno:. There is very few lowlands and if there is some valley it's very narrow. But, at least once the motorways are build they offer great views:).
    - Qwert, 2015 years ago
  • So in close future we may expect Sarajevo - Zenica including Sarajevo bypass.

Yes, as far as I know those are the only sections which are under construction.

(I am not counting 2+2 freeway Banja Luka - Bosanska Gradiska).

Check the photos in this thread.

    I agree 2x.

The views in Slovakia near Tatra's are priceless. And so is in Bosnia (even now when there is no motorway, driving on 2x1 road which goes on the same route) makes the view on mountains look very nice.

Ploče is main port for BIH and 4th largest port at eastern Adriatic, so it's not that unimportant as it seems.

Of course it's going to be a national route dor Bosnia. It goes next to almost every major city. But the harbour of Ploce will be expanding and the A1 is going to be used by tourists driving to the Croatian coast. Both Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina will benefit from this.

  • Are there any official maps of what the Bosnian motorway system would look like in the future?

this (http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g146/osavic/rs-autoput.jpg) map doesn't look too professional. (no offence to the maker of this map).

The most right green line is a part of international corridor Vc and has a full back up of EBRD. There are some parts already finished while other parts are in different phases of planning and construction. Everything else on this sketch is SF for now.

It goes to Ploče and is the closest route and connection with Central Europe and the Adriatic Coast, so it isnt so insignificant as you think, otherwise the EBRD wouldnt finance it ;)

It is also one of 10 Pan-European (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pan-European_corridors) transport corridors

It is for sure less friendly because it passes trough the roughest tarrain in Bosnia so called Bosnia´s Himalayas. The montains are very high and there are lot of them.

I near future ~ 150km should go under construction. Total length trough Bosnia and Herzegovina is ~ 340km, in operation is ~40km.

  • and that koridor goes to where? ploce?? I don't think port ploce is so important that needs budapest attention :D so A1 would be more like a national route for bosnia i think.

Well it certainly is an important route for us. I drive approx. 5 times a year through BiH to the Southern Adriatic rather than going around through Zagreb.

It takes about the same time though but less expensive. It is only 380 km. Plus I really love the scenery. I think BiH is one of the most beautiful European countries (well in fact I love the whole region - Slovenia included :). Culturally I find it also very appealing, exciting.

Ploce of course is not an important port for Hungary but simply because there is no fast connection as yet. I believe this route would be important for all of those from BiH who would drive to Poland, Ukraine or Russia.

I read these threads regularly and I just keep wishing that roads are being built faster. I wish I could spend more of my money on the tolls in BiH! (I read that the first trial run of the toll collection system between Kakanj and Sarajevo was rather successful. I hope this brings the apetite to build more roads even faster)

  • They don't have vignettes in Bosnia as far as I know. Maybe it's an insurance sticker or parking permit.

    Thanks! :)

No its not a vignette, we call it a stiker o tehničkoj ispravnosti vozila, which would be a sticker that shows whether the car is technically fine I guess, i.e the registration sticker ;)

Try this here for the toll road from Herceg-Novi to Trebinje. It is marked as a road only on MNE part, but if you move the map you can clearly see it. Pictures were taken when road was u/c so its very visible. The border on Google maps is soooo incorrectly :bash:

  • The Hungarian motorway M6 from Budapest all the way to around Mohacs (close to the Croatian border) and then west to Pecs will be opened today. So all that's missing between Budapest and BiH is the 57km Between Mohacs and Osijek.

Is there any chance I can drive down from there down to Sarajevo on a motorway anytime soon?

    - KaaRoy, 44 years ago
  • Coridor Vc through B&H you asked for and Banja Luka - Gradiška which is almost finished. But country is in big economical and political crisis.

  • END OF APRIL START ON KAKANJ BILJEŠEVO

Start construction of the highway Kakanj-Bilješevo on Corridor 5-C is expected in late April. Director of highway Federation Erdal Trhulj said that the entire procedure was completed and that the most favorable bidder consortium Viaduct Zagreb and Hering Siroki Brijeg yesterday submitted a bank guarantee in accordance with the tender conditions in the amount of 4.3 million euros. This is a guarantee for good performance, which was a condition for signing the contract.

Directorate of the Federal highway agency closed the procedure about obtaining a building permit and it will be presented to contractors when signing the contract, which is expected early next week.

This part of the highway Kakanj-Bilješevo is 9.5 km long and it is very difficult to build.

The works include among others the construction of the highway, new tapes, the reconstruction of the existing road, raising the bar higher level and build a new regional road Kakanj-Bilješevo. The plan envisages the construction of the junction Bilješevu and construction of a billing station with six passes.

The deadline for the work on a part-Kakanj Bilješevo is 18 months.

  • As this motorway will cross the Croatian border at Gradiška, are there plans for a Croatian extension to A3? It's less than 10 kilometers.
    - ChrisZwolle, 2015 years ago
  • Yes, here it is:
    http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt186/xya_poz/Pozega/Gradiska/cvorokucani-most.jpg
On the left is Croatian A3 (and small existed part of connection tu Novi Varoš village, up to violet coloured service zone, on the road to Stara Gradiška on the Croatian side of the river and Bosanska Gradiška on Bosnian side). On the right is position of future border cross (orange) and bridge over Sava river.

But I think that the start of the constriction of Croatian side depend of the deal with simultaneous start of the construction on northern part of E5.

  • The Federal Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina signed today a contract to build on the Corridor VC highway, section Kakanj - Drivuša, and the subsection Kakanj-Bilješevo.
The value of this contract is slightly greater than 43 million euros, and the deadline for the works is 18 months.

It has been also signed an agreement on supervision for construction works.
The winner of tender for construction supervision was Inoksa igeneria from Madrid, the value of the contract is a million and 322,000 euros.

Agreement on behalf of the Government of the Federation was signed by the director of the Federal Directorate for the construction, operation and maintenance of highways Erdal Trhulj on behalf of the Contractor Joint Venture - Viadukt Inc. Zagreb and Hering d.o.o. Siroki Brijeg, CEO Viadukt Josko Mikulic.

    Five new bridges

Federal Minister Mustafa Mujezinovic was pleased about the beginning of these works, pointing out that the highway will be built within length of 9.35 kilometers. Two lanes and emergency lane running like new, and the other two bands are the reconstruction of existing highway M17. Construction of the new track regional road R-445 in a length of 9.5 km, as an alternative route. This will be done and the reconstruction of local roads in length of 3.60 kilometers, five new bridges and reconstruction of three existing bridges.

It will be built is also additional three new bridges on the regional road R-445, and one new bridge on the regional road - Ticic landslide will be repaired , the Toll Collection center Lučani with five toll points, junction Lučani and all facilities at the route will be complete with all installations, water supply, sewerage, electricity and optical cables.

    - This contract is one of a whole series of major contracts which will be signed during this year and early next year from kovote loans that was agreed with two European banks and the Kuwait Fund in excess of 500 million euros. This is the first of a series of loans. This represents a unique milestone in the construction of Corridor Vc for several reasons.

First, all we have now build on this section we have built from their own funds or from the budget of the Federation. Unfortunately, in the near future we can expect that the building is funded from the budget in a significant amount, so we are forced to turn to other sources of funds. Everything else we have built a lighter part of the route of the Corridor Vc, so we had a mile cheaper than the mileage that we build.

They come to us technically demanding and expensive stocks and as more building Corridor Vc everything will be more expensive stocks. Thirdly and most importantly we will credit spending of these funds to gain confidence again European banks, funds and other lenders who are in the business found their interest - said ŠEĆKANOVIĆ.

The good news for international investors

Start of two phases of construction

Erdal Trhulj made a reference to intensify construction of the motorway on Corridor Vc, as well as other highways in the Federation.

    - Signing this agreement we conclude the first phase, which began in February 2007. Many of these are assessed as too promising that we will provide loans. After three years we know what has been done. We introduced the tolls and the revenues are far higher than we expected. We also introduced excise duties on petroleum products as a stable financial income. We count on international institutions to provide about 800 million KM of credit, and now we ensured even about one billion marks.

So we have created a stable finacial construction and we will have the largest number of sites in the second phase of construction corridor. At the start of construction in 2006 we built three kilometers a year, and after this twice as many miles per year. This year it remains to form and to introduce a closed system of toll collection, which will be completed by the end of August 2010.

He added that the signing of this agreement opens the first site and probably for a month shall be open to another new site worth 55 million euros, and at least in early August and it will open a third site.
He also mentioned the construction of Sarajevo Bypass, which will contribute to opening four to five sites that will work in parallel.
In May expropriation begins in the south of the municipalities of Ljubuski and Čapljina.
By the end of July expropriations are going to begin in Ilidža, Kiseljak, Tarcin and thus prepare this shares. Prequalification for these tenders will start mid-year, so that in spring 2011 will be opened eight sites.

The aim is that by the end of 2013 complete construction of 65 km highway are completed.

And funds were provided by the Kuwait Fund for Zenica ring road and so we will have approximately 120 kilometers of the highway in end 2013.

This would complete the second phase and thus achieve the result of building about 13 km highway a year

In the third phase moves into more intensive construction and will then introduce the work to the private sector and the strategy of private and public partnerships for the Corridor Vc.

We must invest in our own resources, as they reached this year 120 million marks. The Federal Directorate increases the number of employees this year up to 52 for the collection,sSo that they will this and in the next year ensure quality service - sait Trhulj

  • ^^ Will this short motorway without emergency lanes be a part of the Vc Corridor, and if yes, will it be added emergecy lanes?

Actually it is not a motorway but an expressway or western approach, it is the western entrance into the city, and gives access to western part of the city. Also it is not part of 5c corridor, but will connect through a intersection i Vlakovo which links up at the start of the photos above.

You can see here the correct designation

  • ^^ How old is that picture? I know it used to be an expressway (motorroad), but I'm also sure I've seen a motorway sign on it, and you can see a green direction sign on one of the pictures above.

The picture was taken in june 2010. The green signs that you see were placed in 99-2000 for election reasons because at that time there were no motorways in BiH (and will probably stay there until the bypass is finished and some major reconstruction happens). But it was always designated a "gradski autoput/ brzi put(hitri ako ti je lakse)". ONLY when it was OPENED was it considered (for political purposes) a motorway not after, you have your time frame mixed up.
But all this has been explained to you in the past but you seem to obsess with the original markings.
