All necessary drivers are integrated there, but so are some unwanted programs too. The system on this hidden partition is MS-DOS and the recovery data is packed into a huge PQI image. Seems like the default parition in the G55VW uses GPT and so it messed up the parition table and i can't even get back into the recovery partition.

  • Hi Everyone,

I am having an issue with an Asus UL20A notebook. I got this notebook 2 years ago and it came with Windows 7 Home premium installed and a hidden partition for recovery. It did not come with any factory restore DVD or a DVD drive.

After installing Ubuntu in Windows 7 using Wubi, I can no longer access the factory restore option when I boot my laptop up and when I press F9 continuously. The F9 key should allow for accessing a menu to restore to factory settings.

Hi, I bought a CG8890, its giving me some trouble. First I sent for service by a problem with the recovery unit. When returned the PC, f9 key did not work, was wrong. Second, I sent for a problem with the temperature , was 50 degrees in idle.. Return with the RAID0 degraded. ASUS tells me to do another RMA. I refuse. Here comes my question ....
When will it be available recovery disks for Windows 8?

Basically because I want to install the RAIDR...

    Yours sincerely.

  • My Asus laptop came with Windows 7. Like a pro tool, I immediately lost the recovery discs after formatting the recovery partition.

So now I either pay $30 + S&H to get recovery discs... or I could download the same version of Windows and use my existing key if possible. However, I seem to remember keys are vendor specific, so I couldn't use my Asus key with a generic Windows 7 version...?

For some unexplainable reason Fedora developers had desided for all Fedora users about how they may and how they may not partition theirs hard disks. The only boot manager that Fedora installer supports (that it can install) is grub2. And starting from Fedora 18 grub2 could be installed into an MBR gap only. Neither alternative grub2 installation method (into a Linux partition) nor alternative boot manager (for example FreeBSD's boot0) is supported.

  • Hello team,

I recently purchased an ASUS k55N laptop that comes exclusively with Windows 8.
ASUS laptop has this secure boot thing with EFI.
I use F2 to go into Bios and ESC to switch boot order.

    Problem:
I cannot boot up any livecds or USB boot disks to then be able to run or dualboot a linux distro.

It seems impossible to do so with all these new laptops using the secure boot thing. My question, is

  • Hi friends,

SUB:- USB BIOS FLASHBACK UPDATE IN ASUS MAXIMUS V EXTREME MOTHER BOARD

I have seen in various discussion and forum that updating USB BIOS FLASKBACK is a little tricky and complicated procedure like converting ROM to CAP file, renaming the CAP file and copying the file to a USB drive etc. If it is not done in the proper manner, it will back fire and can affect the Bios a lot and thus making the mother board unstable. • MBR or GPT

So which one should I choose for my WD20EARS drives? From what I've understand GPT supports partitions larger than 2TB MBR provides better compatibility. I've read conflicting information about performance and reliability differences.

Is there any advantage to GPT besides the support of larger partitions?

  • Hi,

I have a SSD installed in my HTPC that is never used. That SSD has a fresh install of win7 on it (which i did as part of building my HTPC). I just bought a Asus G74 with an empty 2nd HDD bay.

If i simply plug the SSD from HTPC into the G74 second bay and change the boot order in G74 bios to go to SSD first, would it work? or would i have compatibility issues or even need to do full reinstall.

  • Hey there,

i wonder how the chances are for a Nvidia GOP compatible VBIOS to come out for my GTX670. I did read somewhere on the web that some manufacturers are sending GOP VBIOSs to users on request. I understand that this kind of issue has been discussed here a lot of times, but I am still not able to figure it out just by following the guides I've found.

On my old PC it was so damn easy, I just had to plug in my bootable USB key and click on "Install Ubuntu alongside Windows 8", but

This would be the case if you are booting from a floppy, or have it set up like I do. Upgrading the G75VW is relatively simple: you just need a Philips screw driver. It’s just one screw keeping you out of the main hatch which covers the two 2.5″ hard drive spaces, two SO-DIMM clips and one of the fan filters, as you can see below.

Flip over the notebooks and unscrew the first hatch near the front:
